Getting Into The Festive Groove !

Come October, and my favourite part of the year begins. There is slight nip in air. Mornings are more pleasant, especially for Nagpurians, who experience horrible heat all through the year. Days start getting shorter and evenings are cooler too! There is a certain excitement in the air. For me personally, lots of celebrations with birthdays in the family, the approach of festive season and soon to be over, exam season for kids.

Newspapers look different these days. They are full of  advertisements, offering freebies and discounts on everything. From the latest televisions and refrigerators to the newest cars and jewellery.

The internet with it's online shopping convenience is flooded with advertisements of 3 days 'maha sale' on Flipkart and Amazon.

If you move around the city, there are street shops selling Rangolis, and diyas. The stores and malls  have their freshest stocks. They are open all seven days of the week, with extended hours everyday, hoping to set the cash registers ringing. Exhibitions selling home decor, clothes etc pop up all over the city.

Numbers of home cleaners, painters, boutiques and tailors are exchanged enthusiastically across Whats App groups. The Marie Kondo within is out and about along with the brooms and vaccum cleaners.

There is Navratri, Dushhera, Karvaa Chauth and Diwali. There are bindis, sarees, suits, bling, mithais, fried savouries(Calories, shut up) and the gifting. Aaaaah!!

Among all the partying and shopping, let's not forget, Diwali is festival of lights.Lighting up not just your own house, it's about lighting others lives too.One of my favourite thing to do, is buying gifts for the domestic staff in diwali and taking them out for lunch. A small act of generosity, giving the person who works for you some money or even the  swiggy guy few extra bucks and wishing them 'Happy Diwali' brings a smile to their faces, and in turn to ours.

The Diwali buzz is in the air. City folks are in a festive mood, as they get busy with poojas, parties and patakas! The one thing I wish we could do away with are the patakas, especially the noisy ones. Apart from the ear  deafening sound that scares little kids, old people, and normal people in general; what purpose do they  serve?!! Why burst a pataka when you can be one!

So, come on everyone, move on, shine on. Bring out your bling n baubles and get ready!

Wishing you all a happy festive season ahead!

P.S: Looking forward to everyone posting their glam pics saying,' Happy Diwali '.

On Facebook and Instagram ;))
